7 Good Reads for the Mystery Book Lover

I am a HUGE book nerd.  I’ve always enjoyed reading, and getting sucked in by a good mystery/suspense/thriller.  I wanted to do a book review because I think a lot of people have similar interests in books as me (give me all the twists and a crazy ending!) and I am personally always on the hunt for my next read. Also, what better time to snuggle up with a good book & a cute pup than Fall!

Below are just a handful of the books I’ve read over the last few months – the ones I found to be the best.  Please let me know if you have read any of them, and of course if you have any recommendations yourself!

PS – (and this is in no way sponsored) but I read using a NOOK, and love it!  I know some people like the feel of a real book in their hands, which I understand, but my tablet can hold endless books and I love being able to take them all with me wherever I go.  I can also order books anywhere, anytime.  I just go on Barnes and Noble’s website, add a book to my cart, and it instantly downloads to my NOOK.  I’ve had mine for about three years, and haven’t had a single issue with it.  The battery lasts forever (like weeks at a time) and I have a cover for it to protect the screen.

Okay, here is the list:

That Night by Chevy Stevens – If you’re looking for a really great “whodunnit” book, this is it.  It was recomended to me by a good friend, and is now one of my favorite books I’ve ever read.  It’s about a teenage girl who’s life is full of adolescent complications, yet her world turns upside down one night when her sister is murdered and she is wrongfully convicted.  It goes back and forth between what happened that night, her life in prison, and her determination to find out who really killed her sister.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris – If you like twisted thrillers, you will love this one!  Jack and Grace seem like the perfect couple.  They are wealthy, charming, good-looking, and seem to spend all of their time together.  But then others start to wonder why Grace is never alone.  More and more signs start to show that their perfect marriage is really not so perfect.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty – Another recommendation from my good friend.  I truly enjoyed this book!  The characters are so interesting, and quite witty.  Their personalities are what make this book interesting and a really great read.  There is tons of drama and mystery – definitely recommend it!

The River at Night by Erica Ferencik – this one gave me such an adrenaline rush!  I honestly couldn’t stop reading.  Four best friends take a girls trip to go rafting in the Allagash wilderness.  But things start to go very wrong, and their relaxing escape turns into a real nightmare.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie – if you’re an Agatha Christie fan (a lot of us are!) then be sure to add this one to your list.  This is the first book I’ve read by her, and though the writing style took a few chapters to get used to, it definitely still sucked me in.  It’s another “whodunnit” classic, and I definitely didn’t see the end coming!  PS – I just saw a trailer for a new movie coming out that is based on one of her books – Murder on the Orient Express!  Keep an eye out for that one.

The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda Leah Stevens needs to get out of Boston and leave her past life behind.  She runs into her old friend Emmy, and they instantly connect and start new lives together in rural Pennsylvania.  But everything comes to a halt when a woman with an eerie resemblance to Leah is assaulted one night, and Emmy vanishes a few days later.  I loved trying to figure out what happened, and was not disappointed in the end!

Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson – Another one that you won’t be able to put down!  It’s about an amnesiac who after a strange accident, cannot remember who she is every morning she wakes up.  She spends her days trying to uncover her past life and discover what happened to her, only to have the new memories vanish overnight.  This was one that I had to push to get through a few chapters, but it picks up about 2/3 of the way through, and has a crazy ending!

Let me know if you read any of these and if you like them!

This sounds so fantastic! I love reading but at this stage in my life — it is difficult to find the time (three kids and all). I do make it a daily practice to read from my scriptures – love feeding my soul. If any of these are available through CD I can play it while being taxi mom!

I totally understand. I find that I’m a “circumstantial reader”. I love doing it when I’m laying by the pool, or on a plane. But I need to start reading more regularly!

I used to read mystery books when I was younger. Wish I can find more time to read. Thanks for these suggestions. Will check them out and download a couple, and maybe I can squeeze in some time this weekend.
